This concerto is for trombone or euphonium with the accompaniment of the symphony orchestra. The composer combined some classical music traditions with traditions of his Afro-Puerto Rican heritage.
I. Moderato- The first movement has a sonata form accompanied by the danceable rhythms of the Puerto Rican Bomba-Sica.
II. Moderato- This second movement has the melodic motive from the first movement presented as an opera aria, more heroic and dramatic.
III. Lero- The third movement has more characteristics from Afro-Puerto Rican music. The calls and responses chants between the orchestra and the soloist, and the accompaniment of the Lero variation of the Puerto Rican Bomba bring joy and soul to the Batey (garden) dance party.
