Concerto

Samuel Zyman’s three-movement CONCERTO FOR GUITAR AND STRING ORCHESTRA is driven by rich and inventive dialogue between soloist and ensemble. In Zyman’s hands, the string orchestra becomes an enormous, resonant guitar, while the lyrical polyphony of the cadenzas transforms the guitar into a miniature string orchestra. The concerto’s neoromantic forms are imbued with the syncopated rhythms of the composer’s native Mexico, making this work simultaneously familiar and fresh for audiences of all kinds. The piano reduction prepared by the composer is fit for recital performance, as well as for preparation to perform the work with string orchestra.
