Balquhidder describes it as, "Ranging from the robust to the sublime, the concerto integrates the motor-rhythmic drive of the baroque composer, the steely angularity of Stravinsky and the quiet beauty of Mahler-esque transcendentalism." As further enhancement of the soloist, Roskott's score does not include orchestral trumpets, allowing the solo trumpet to shine through.
