The Concerto Grosso, Op. 6, No. 8 by Arcangelo Corelli is known as the Christmas Concerto because Corelli's manuscript bears the inscription "Fatto per la notte di Natale," which translates "Written for Christmas Night."
The Concerto Grosso form was very popular during the Baroque period.
A "Concerto Grosso" is a musical composition for a group of solo instruments, the "Concertino," accompanied by an orchestra, the "Ripieno." The "Continuo" refers to the keyboard and bassline which provides rhythmic and harmonic support to the ensemble. In this edition, a very playable Continuo part was realized and may be played on an electronic keyboard with a harpsichord sound.
This edition presents the first movement of Corelli's Christmas Concerto which is comprised of three sections: Vivace Grave Allegro. Both educational and entertaining to perform at a Winter program, the duration of this work is approximately 4 minutes.
