More than thinking of the massive wall of sound of the 20th or 21st-century modern orchestra for the orchestration, the composer was thinking about the styles of 18th or 19th-century opera composers. The trombone's melodies bring the nostalgia of opera singers, instead of presenting faster trombonistic virtuoso passages. However, the accompaniment includes a lot of modern fresh harmonic progressions with Afro-Puerto Rican rhythms.
