Heinrich Domnich (1767-1844) was professor of horn specializing in cor basse at the Paris Conservatory from its inception in 1795 until 1817. His 1st Concerto was composed between 1797 and 1802 and is thought to have been premiered in April 1803. As the title indicates it is a piece for premier cor (first horn) or high horn and emphasizes the instrument's upper register.
