Program Notes: Many of us have a habit of doing things that are
counterproductive to what we should be achieving, and this was very much the
case and basis for the creation of this composition. This work highlights
creating motifs then counter motifs, creating melodies and then counter
melodies, harmonies, and then counter harmonies, and also by utilizing
rhythms and then counter rhythms. The middle section of this work includes a
complex multi-meter passage to emphasize a feeling of anxiety, or tension
that some feel while being counterproductive. This work does build to a
dramatic and satisfying conclusion, and as you will hear sometimes being
counterproductive, can be productive.
