Cuenten las Maravillas del Senor / Proclaim His Marvelous Deeds

This responsorial Psalm setting in Spanish and English for SATB choir, cantor and assembly was commissioned by the Archdiocese of Washington for the first Mass Pope Francis celebrated in the United States in 2015. The mixed meter and dance-like rhythms reflect the vitality of the distinctive musical contributions of the indigenous people of California. Throughout the piece, the refrain should be light and dance-like while the verses provide opportunity for more expression and dynamic variation. It is scored for keyboard, guitar, two C instruments and cello.
