Dance of the Pirates

Evoking a life at sea, this passionate and wistful tune in D minor empowers all sections of the orchestra to perform melodic lines and support each other. A light ostinato in the lower strings sets the foundation for a lush and lovely theme introduced by the second violins. Written in 6/8 time with a touch of Spanish flair, sixteenth-note runs abound and present a fantastic opportunity to practice several different bowing techniques.
