This beautiful a cappella piece talks through the narrator's desires for "solace" during difficult times. The text takes you on their journey from reminiscing about simpler times, pausing to breathe and slow down the world around them, and then re-finding what inspires them and wishing for the "wings" needed to carry them into whatever is next. The lilting 3/4 rhythms mimic the narrator swinging on their porch swing, stewing in their thoughts and the sounds around him. The song is based on my own struggles with mental health. I was sitting out on my deck and listening to the sounds of nature around them, reminiscing about my favorite porch swing at my parents’ house and wishing I was there, and life were simpler. But, I remembered what inspires me, my family, and allowed that motivation to help pull me out of this dark place. I hope you are able to find your own interpretation and inspiration in this song, and that you allow your voice its own wings.

**Note: There are minor differences between the final score and the performance by the Morris Park Singers, who premiered this piece on their Spring 2024 concert, “Soar”. The song was edited slightly after this performance.**

Enjoy this new arrangement of the popular Christmas carol!! For the first half of the song, the upper voices take on the often-used arpeggiated accompaniment while the Bass section enjoys the melody in a simple round. Then, the full choir comes together for the "O night Divine" section. Complete with some twists on the traditional harmonies, this arrangement is a different take on a classic while still remaining true to the original's beauty!! Enjoy!!

O Holy Night

Enjoy this arrangement of Eugene Field's beautiful poem!! This accessible lullaby is the perfect arrangement for any choir who is looking for a sweet sounding song to round out their concert repertoire. Each voice part gets a chance to be highlighted in the beginning melodies before they are then stacked on top of each other in a fun quodlibet style second verse. Then, enjoy traditional choral settings in third verse and a beautiful duet to end the piece.

The Singing in God's Acre

Growing up in the Baptist church, music has always been an important part of my faith journey. Despite attending the modern service most Sundays, I always loved a good old fashioned hymn. I even stole a hymnal from my church in middle school and loved looking through the different songs and playing them on my piano at home. There just something about the harmonies echoing in the sanctuary that always put me at ease. Fast forward to college, we had a guest speaker in one of my vocal pedagogy classes who taught us some different styles of group singing. She introduced us to the traditional Appalachian version of ‘Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah’. I recognized the text right away. But when I heard this version of the melody, I was immediately inspired. I felt that this version of the melody really brought out the deep feelings and raw emotions of the text that I hadn’t noticed before. I immediately went back to my dorm after this class and began arranging. I hope feel as inspired by the text and melody as I was and bring your own interpretation to the meaning of longing for someone help you through tough times.
