In 1840, Robert Schumann took five poems by Friederick Ruckert, set them to music as songs, and dedicated them to his beloved Clara as a wedding gift. Set now for flute choir, this piece is reminiscent of Faure's Cantique de Jean Racine. For advanced players, it is scored for 3 C flutes, 2 alto flutes, and one bass flute, which may be doubled on contra. An alternate C part is included for one of the alto flute parts.
