"The Song of Delilah" by Victor Young first appeared in the 1949 movie Samson and Delilah as Delilah's character theme. The film is a dramatic interpretation of the biblical story of Samson, the hero of the Israelites. Clifford Brown famously arranged the tune under the title "Delilah," which was recorded by the Clifford Brown and Max Roach Quintet and appeared on the 1954 album Clifford Brown and Max Roach. This arrangement is inspired by Brown's but aims to expand the harmonic language and counter-melodic grooves that Brown uses while also incorporating the sound and style of traditional Israeli frame drumming.
