The full orchestra version of Deluge was commissioned in 2022 by Lori
Buonamici and Nick Garofalo for the Chattahoochee High School Orchestras.
The music represents a day in the life of a high school student.
The opening is the passing period music in E minor. This should be played
short with attention to the accents. Each time this theme returns it should
be played with a little extra frantic, crazy chaos. This music is the A theme
and returns throughout the piece to connect the other themes together in a
Rondo form.
The second B theme combines features of many scales from around the world
to represent the diversity of cultures in the student population of
Farmington High School.
The C theme is day dream-like in character, like a slow waltz.
The B theme returns with the melody played by the violas, cellos and
basses. This leads to a coda for the school day. The piece ends with the
students finishing the school day and celebrating as they go forth into the
bright beautiful city of Farmington. The piece comes to a grand ending.
A string orchestra version of this piece (also available on MyScore) was
originally commissioned by Reid Smith for the three Farmington High School
Orchestras in 2013.
