A resounding and dramatic brass fanfare serves as an introduction to a spirited allegro. A slower middle portion, rather jazzy in character, features a trumpet solo before a recap of the faster material. After a reprise of the opening fanfare, the piece closes in dramatic fashion. Generous cross-cuing enables performances with smaller instrumentations.
