"Dialogue (for Trombone Ensemble)", from American composer P.
F. Strohm, is an up-tempo, jazz-based work created for the Eastman Trombone
Choir. The work is scored for a 10-part trombone ensemble, comprised of two
Alto, six Tenor, Bass and Contrabass trombones. There are also substitute
Tenor parts for the two Altos if that's your preference. It employs two
quintet groupings to create straight-ahead, ensemble energy. The two quintets
trade off melodic and rhythmic figures throughout the opening. In the
mid-section, the two Altos trade solo lines, then combine in a riveting
climax. The two quintets then trade tight, challenging tutti phrases as the
piece rockets to a big-band-like ending.
"Dialogue" is an exciting work for trombone ensembles with
Alto players looking for more modern and demanding parts. Advanced level of difficulty. Performance
time is 4:24. Member, ASCAP.
