This traditional Latvian song appears to be all about horses - horses eager to run - and run they do; however, it is really a mythological song about heavenly affairs and two gray steeds with their golden saddles and silver harnesses. The occasional 7/8 measure, a variety of percussion instruments accompanying the a cappella voices, and a pedal-tone drone that moves from part to part keep the energy and excitement high from beginning to end.
