I composed Drifting Figures' in 2019 for the Triad Choir of Boston, a choral collective in which I sang bass, conducted, and helped organize.
The text is a group of short phrases taken from Walt Whitman's poem Sea-Drift.' The fragments of text are set to fragments of melody which repeatedly appear in all of the parts. The result is a shifting mass of sound, my attempt to evoke the sea with voices.
