Durachem Cove:
In the early 1860's a widowed lady and her two sons moved to a homestead in Chelsea Township, which is located in Northwest Butler County, Kansas. Mrs. Durachem and the boys farmed the land. As the mischievous boys grew older, they began to get into trouble. One day they stole two horses and rode them all over the county. In those days, you know what happens to horse thieves ....... they hang them! The boys were caught, taken to a cove and hung from the largest tree in the cove. At the end of the music, there are several dissonant chords in preparation for the hanging. In the last measure, the bass drum reflects the boys being cut down. The creek and cove are now called Durachem Creek and Durachem Cove.
