East of the Sun

This wonderful standard is arranged in the classic Basie full ensemble style with extremely tasty tutti writing and lots of dynamic contrasts. The head is in a relaxed two-beat feel and scored for the full band playing very softly. Also featured is a very interesting and melodic soli section for bass, tenor sax, and harmon muted trumpet. A roaring shout chorus and saxophone soli follows the trumpet solo section.
