Echo, from the French Suite for Harpsichord, BWV 831

An easy-going, enjoyable and new arrangement for brass quintet of the final section from Bach's Overture in the French Style (BWV 831). The title 'Echo' refers to loud, then soft, statements in the original composition, written partly with the intention of exploiting the still rare at the time capability for a keyboard instrument to produce dynamic contrasts. Scoring: Trumpets (or Cornets) 1 & 2 in B-flat, Horn in F, Trombone (bass clef) and Tuba. Alternative band instrument parts are also provided for Horn in E-flat, Trombone or Euphonium in B-flat treble clef and E-flat Bass (ie. Tuba reading in treble clef). Original key: B minor. Transposed key: G minor. Duration: c. 3'15" if both repeats are taken. Suitable for a county-level schools' brass group, conservatoire students, ad-hoc band member ensembles or professional players alike.
