Program Notes:
This song holds personal significance to me as it serves as a tribute to love, loss, and the lasting impact we leave on others. On January 17, 2024, I lost my beloved dog, Nala. After more than a decade of unconditional love and companionship, we had to make the painful decision to ease her suffering and put her down. I will forever carry the regret of not fully appreciating the time we had together, but I remain forever grateful for the lasting impression she left on me. Her passing, along with the sudden loss of a friend's mother, made me reflect on the importance of the relationships we build and the marks we leave on the people we touch.
Since Nala's passing, I often find comfort in the memories I have of her. When I feel the most alone, I can hear the sound of her paws on the floor and the jingle of her collar, as if she's still with me. These small echoes of the past have brought me a sense of peace and reassurance in a way that only she had been able to provide while she was still alive.
The song tells the story of life, showing both the pain of loss and the strength we find in our connections. It starts with sorrow but gradually shifts to a triumphant celebration of legacy, reminding us that our actions and memories stay with those we love long after we're gone.
