Romantic composer Jules Massenet is best known for writing over 30 operas, but one of his most enduring and beloved melodies is his "Elegie." Originally composed for piano in 1872, it was later adapted as incidental music for the play "Les Erinnyes" ("The Furies") in 1873, and later gained popularity as a song for voice, cello, and piano.
This new edition features the viola in place of the cello, beautifully capturing the spirit of the emotional and lamenting lyrics. It opens with a solo viola passage, followed by expressive interplay between the voice, viola, and piano. This version is set in F minor and encompasses a vocal range from middle C (C4) to G5.
Includes Piano/Vocal part and Viola part
