Engel Lieder

Poets and composers have regularly been inspired by angels for texts, images, or melodies. This angel song cycle is based on the wonderful lyrics of Hugo Ball, Martin Luther, Eduard Morike, Friedrich Ruckert, as well as Psalm 91. The six angel songs can be performed with different vocal settings (1- to 4-part treble singers, SA, SSA, or SATB) and piano accompaniment. All four vocal versions can be flexibly combined as desired and sung simultaneously, and can be accompanied by piano or string quartet/quintet. Additionally, each song has an optional descant notated in C or B flat. The flexible scoring allows for singers and instrumentalists of all ages to be combined, and the general text allows this to be used at any time of year, including the Christmas season.
