In 1924 the British Mount Everest expedition made a 2nd official attempt at scaling Mount Everest, Earth's highest mountain above sea level, in the Himalayas on the Chinese-Nepal border. After two summit attempts the third, on 8 June, which comprised George Leigh Mallory and Andrew Comyn Irvine, resulted in their disappearance and the unanswered question of whether or not they had reached their goal.
