Equinox is inspired by the time of year when day and night stand in perfect balance, each occupying equal time. The piece opens with a dark, subdued version of the primary melody, evoking the fall equinox. Cooler evenings settle in, shadows lengthen, and leaves begin their slow descent from the trees. The music reflects this shift with restrained energy and introspection. The middle section introduces a lighter, more playful mood. A gentle waltz emerges, imagining wildlife stirring in the early morning sunlight. Here, warmth and motion return as the world awakens, offering contrast and renewed vitality. In the final section, the original melody returns, transformed into a major key. This brighter statement celebrates the warmth of daylight, filled with sunlight and optimism, bringing the work to a radiant, satisfying conclusion.
