This original setting of the tune, Jesu meine Freude, by Johann Crüger, is a wonderful piece for a prelude, offertory, special music, etc. It begins with a solo that is soon joined by the organ. Later, the soloist leads with a descant and then a more ornamented descant that builds to the conclusion. This setting affords a nice collaboration between the organist and soloist and is guaranteed to enhance the worship experience. 
It works with a variety of instruments and I offer treble parts as well. A piano version is also available, and another piano version for treble instruments. The organist may want to use mostly flutes for string or woodwind soloists, but can certainly add some softer reeds for the brass instruments.

This is the Piano version. The length, key, tempos, and meters are the same in both versions, so the same solo part may be interchanged with the organ version.

Trombone Solo with Piano

A setting of the tune, BETHANY, by Lowell Mason (1792-1872). He wrote the tune expressly for this text and published it in 1859 in Sabbath Hymn and Tune Book. This setting is introspective but does allow the soloist to share a wide range of expression. There are three versions: A. for low instruments, B. for Bb treble instruments, and C. for C treble instruments. The same accompaniment works with any of the solo parts.

Second Setting of "Bethany"

This is the Piano version with treble instrument solo.
The score is printed with the Bb treble part, specifically, clarinet, but the trumpet part is nearly identical and either may be used.
The violin part is a bit more ornate than the others but is designed to be used with the same piano score. Alternatively, it may be played by a flute or oboe.
