Eriskay Love Lilt is one of Scotland's most popular folk songs. This song conveys themes of love and nostalgia and the lyrics are rich with imagery. The melody of the song has been used a hymn tune. The song became extremely popular after it was recorded in 1964 in a somewhat sanitized version by a folk group called The Seekers. Since then, it has traveled the world and has become a favorite folk song of the British Isles. The popularity of the song increased after being used in the Outlander television series. Eriskay is a small island lying between the larger islands of South Uist and Barra. They are part of the Outer Hebrides (HEB-rid-eez), a group of islands which stand in the Atlantic Ocean off the rugged north-west coast of Scotland. Eriskay is only a few square miles in area and has around two hundred inhabitants. It is connected to South Uist by a mile-long causeway. The island is known for the local Eriskay ponies, of which only a few hundred exist. In this arrangement, the melody is in G major then later in A major.
