Requiring only 3 toms, a bass drum, and a cymbal, its small footprint will make for a quick setup that packs a rhythmic, drummy punch. The energy of this piece comes from blend of a fast tempo, hocketed rhythms, drum-to-rim textures, and extreme dynamic contrast. Espresso will serve as both a great performance work (especially as a concert opener, or interlude during state resetting) as well as an effective piece in which to train musical concepts with unpitched instrumentation.
