This instrumental sheet music was composed for cellos and pianos. It is based on Gabriel Faure's "Sicilienne" opus 78. It was firstly composed for a scene of an unfinished incidental music for "Le Bourgeois gentilhomme." Then, it was included into the incidental music of "Pelleas et Melisande" by Maurice Maeterlinck (1898). It was arranged several times for various instrumental formations, but until this one, none of them were intended to be sung. This poem about love encounter between Pelleas and Melisande was written with Gabriel Faure's music.
