One of the most popular and enduring hymn-tune melodies, W. H. Monk’s melody Eventide is sung, to H. F. Lyte’s words Abide with Me, in churches (and sporting events) the world over. This Fantasia presents the simple but memorable tune in various textures against a falling counter-melody, highlighting Monk’s transparently simple harmonisation of the last line in the final bars.
