Faure's Pavane, Op. 50 of 1886 is one of his best-known compositions. It was, like some of his contemporary Debussy's music, originally composed for piano but later orchestrated by the composer, and today it is usually heard in that version. An alternate 3rd Bb clarinet part is included to substitute for alto clarinet if that instrument is not available.
