The word "Florilegium", in this context, means "flower collection." This is a three movement fine art piano work which exemplifies eclectic historicism in music. The first movement has Baroque, Classical and Romantic influences and is named for the deadly but beautiful Wolfsbane flower. The second movement, "Oncidium Orchid", is in G major and is dance inspired. Some say that this orchid looks like a dancing lady when in bloom. The final movement is a march. Commercial sunflowers, planted in long straight rows, have heads that turn to follow the sun's arc. They behave like soldiers on parade in front of a viewing stand. Written in D major, this movement uses John Phillip Sousa's military march form with one exception. The final section recapitulates the beginning instead of the trio. If you listen closely, you will even hear the "Dog Fight" section. Have fun!
