For a Lady

I believe that music is among the most compelling ways to preserve one's memory after they are gone. For a Lady was written to memorialize my dear friend's German Shepard, named Lady. A magnificent animal who I had the pleasure of meeting on numerous occasions before her life ended. For this section I asked my friend to describe his longtime canine companion in his own words: Lady was a dog that commanded respect. She was a gentle giant but ran the neighborhood. As the queen of the cul-de-sac, she was well known by many. Children and adults alike recognized her as she went by on her daily walks. While she had a terrifying bark ... she had no bite, and helped many young kids (and some adults) conquer their fears of big dogs. Lady was truly loved and will always be remembered for being family royalty. -Matt Bess Absent a strict musical form, For a Lady explores a variety of themes, styles, and emotions, a structure meant to be reflective of a life story. It is my hope and intention that this work speak to those who have experienced the love of a pet, and who have also mourned the loss of one.
