Fractals

Fractals is a large level 5+ for symphonic band. It was commissioned by the University of Binghamton Symphonic Band, Binghamton, NY - Mr. Daniel Fabricius, Director. It is a single movement work that has four distinct sections, all of whose genesis come from a brass chorale (second section) which begins with low brass and horns, continues to woodwinds, and eventually is developed throughout the ensemble. The melodic material of Fractals is taken from the first two phrases of that chorale which is developed in many varied and unique ways. These include asymmetric meters and multi-metric sections. Fractals truly is a piece in the great symphonic band literature tradition, and has many wonderful moments right to the very end. It would be appropriate for advance high school, college, community, or professional concert bands, and is 10'40" in duration.
