Friday's Cascara

Friday's Cascara is an excellent unaccompanied three-mallet solo written for the developing marimba player. The piece opens with a short section that calls for playing on the instrument's frame. The established ostinato is given tonality and developed further as it moves to the bars. There is a contrasting B section and a return to the ostinato before the end. Works wonderfully both as a recital piece and a practical exercise for mallet independence!
