Known for his arrangements of American hymn tunes, Robert Lau's setting of I Love to Tell the Story is beautifully transcribed for handbells. Mostly rung with LV passages and perfectly-placed shakes, the setting begins with sonorous singing bells and LV bells in the treble supporting handchimes ringing the verse, which then moves to bells ringing the chorus. A legato and introspective second verse moves to a glorious and thrilling final chorus. Those familiar with the words of this hymn are sure to be silently singing along with this setting, as it remains true to the original hymn.

I Love to Tell the Story

4-7 Octave Handbells

This delightful American folk tune will be a wonderful addition to your group's repertoire. Perfect for youth as well as adults, multiple variations find the melody featured in both treble and bass clefs. It is mostly rung with the exception of a few bass clef malleted notes in the 4-5 octave version. Unexpected chord progressions (from Bb-major to Bb-minor and back) contain a few accidentals which will keep ringers engaged and the audience anticipating the next variation. Addition of optional percussion is perfect for the B6/C7 ringer to play. All that plus a surprise ending is sure to entertain! Editions are compatible.

This familiar and delightful waltz from Tchaikovsky’s "Nutcracker Suite" has been arranged for handbells and optional flute or C instrument. Written in F major, it is mostly rung with nicely placed marts, thumb damps, and shakes that accentuate the phrasings. Effective placement of dynamics emphasizes the graceful movement of this wonderful work. Accessible by moderately accomplished groups, it will be a lovely addition for your holiday concerts and more!

A truly gorgeous, sensitive, and creative setting for handbells and cello, this arrangement of the familiar FINLANDIA begins with cello playing the solo melody line followed by handchimes and then handbells as subtle accompaniment. Cello and handbell lines share the melody throughout, alternately accompanying each other. Subtle rhythmic and LV sections add texture and interest as the piece evolves. Dynamics and expression help build to a maestoso musical climax, which then gradually leads to a calm, peaceful, and comforting ending. This beautiful, expressive, and sensitive work was inspired by the "water into wine" miracle described in John 2. The piece begins with an ethereal mix of wind chimes, singing bell, and handchimes which underlay the gentle random ringing of specific notes in the bells. This segues into the lyrical melody supported by a gentle, flowing LV accompaniment. Handchimes are featured in a lovely minor setting, followed by very expressive sections leading to the return of the beautiful main theme. It grows to a glorious climax and then gradually diminishes into a beautiful, peaceful ending. Well crafted and lovely.

This catchy polka-style piece is a worldwide favorite! Dedicated to Raleigh Ringers director David Harris for their annual Oktobellfest, it stays true to the style with a steady oom-pah beat. The addition of perfectly placed stopped sounds makes this piece sparkle! It is sure to become a must-have for your group's concert repertoire!

This fresh, lovely, and accessible arrangement begins with the singing bell technique and gentle shakes, setting the stage to present this favorite African-American spiritual. Featuring a gentle, flowing accompaniment with many dynamic expressions throughout, the melody is briefly featured in the handchimes in the 4's accompanied by flowing eighth notes in the treble bells. This sweet arrangement could also be rung by a solid Level 2 group.

Gentle flowing lines and warm harmonic textures create a reflective setting of the hymn tune TRENTHAM. Ideal for worship services or contemplative concert moments, the expressive writing allows intermediate church handbell choirs to shape the melody with warmth and sensitivity. The addition of alternate bells such as Petit Fritsen or Silver Melody bells adds a very effective nuance. In the absence of these bells, standard handbells may be used for these notes. Percussion – including mark tree (bar chimes), triangle or finger cymbals, and gently rolled suspended cymbal – makes this a thoroughly engaging and beautiful work that cannot be adequately described with simple words.

This ragtime waltz combines the classical waltz and ragtime styles. Several key changes and segues lead to all of the variations, plus there are several repeats which may offer opportunities to adjust the performance time if necessary. This lovely original is lush, flowing, and emotional. Set in E minor, the thoughtful melody is supported by harmonies that satisfy as the piece ebbs and flows. LV sections plus a few suspended malleted notes add poignancy. This wonderful creation will move and inspire – it will be lovely for concert or worship.

Here is a delightful original work with a rhythmic foundation built on mixed meter throughout, featuring a cheerful melody perfectly suited to the rhythm. Nicely placed mart lifts add to the engaging pulse of the music. Feeling a bit more calm, a  lovely countermelody section is interspersed with the main theme. The addition of treble clef mallets leads into the DARWALL'S 148TH tune rung on handchimes (3 octaves). Further developments lead back to the original theme with excited anticipation of the glorious ending. This is a joyous work sure to become that special go-to selection for all celebratory occasions!

(Everybody's Waitin' for) The Man With the Bag is a delightful holiday song. Written in swing style with occasional stopped techniques, shakes, and dynamic changes, this is sure to be a favorite. Played at tempo, a few chromatics will be a bit of a challenge but accessible. Lyrics are included.

The Addams Family

This Doo-Wop medley contains Book of Love; Goodnight, Sweetheart, Goodnight; and Who Put the Bomp (in the Bomp Ba Bomp Ba Bomp!) Sure to bring back memories of the 50's, this straight-forward arrangement uses both bells and chimes plus just the right amount of stopped techniques to emphasize the beat. This original work features a happy, lilting melody that will engage your group from the very first measure. The Bells of St. Andrews

This arrangement of the Irving Berlin big band hit from the late 1920s is faithful to the original, dressed in a very ritzy yet elegant musical fashion. Brilliant use of a variety of stopped sounds, jazz improv-style sections in the lower bells, riffs, and jazz-style accented notes are just some of the highlights. The last section has a double-time feel and will have your audience on their feet by the end. Bass and drums are optional but recommended. Truly a "must-ring" for the advanced handbell ensemble!
