Isn't it time you try some Funky Stew? A perfect concert opener, it features a simple driving groove in the rhythm section. The winds and brass pass the melody around while your rhythm section is having fun locking in their parts. With glissandos, an effective pyramid that sets off different sections, and a drum feature, this energetic chart is accessible to developing jazz bands. The open solo section allows students to improvise using only the notes of the familiar concert B-flat blues scale. A written suggested solo is also included.
