This piece is something uniquely different. It is a work for concert band that features an electric guitar soloist. This is for that one student in your school who shreds on guitar, but doesn't really have a place in the traditional school ensemble. My brother and I wrote this piece years ago for a rock band. In 2024, it was reworked to become a concert band piece out of necessity within my own school band program. The guitar part is written out in standard Western music notation. There is no TAB because of the complex rhythms. The score is 15 pages with 85 measures. Tempo is quarter note = 78 throughout. Key of F major. Parts included in the score include: Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, Alto Sax, Tenor Sax, Bari Sax, Trumpet, Horn, Trombone, Euphonium, Bassoon, Tuba, Mallets, Drumset, and Piano. The piano is really only needed at the end (m. 73) and is included for rehearsal purposes and chord analysis. Measure numbers are included in score and all parts. Being a school band director myself, I know that instrument modifications are usually needed, so I have also included the following parts (not in the score): Alternate Flute, Alt Oboe, Alt Bb, Alt Alto, Baritone TC, and Electric Bass. The title is Gentleman because that is what the original rock band piece was called. In addition, it is a reminder to the young people in your program to strive towards living with the traits of integrity, patience, good manners, respect, compassion, and generosity. I hope you have as much fun learning and performing this work as I had writing it. - BK
