"Gigue in Bb for Concert Band" is a contemporary take on the Baroque "gigue" dance, also known as a "jig" in modern times. Bach was famous for writing them, for example including one in his first French Suite (BWV 812). They're usually in a compound meter like 3/8 or, as in my work's case, 6/8, and are often found at the end of a multi-movement work.
This Gigue started out as the 4th movement of a larger suite, but it outgrew the other three movements and took on a life of its own. It mainly features the woodwinds, especially the flute, but the brass get in a few bold statements of their own now and then during the work's 4:53 runtime.
