It opens with a flourishing, rhythmic introduction that recurs throughout the piece, offering opportunities to teach ringers precision and musicianship. A center section, based on the fourth verse of the Psalm, is quiet and flowing, reflecting the words, "There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God." After a return to the beginning material, the piece builds to an exciting, uplifting conclusion that makes it appropriate for festive occasions. Optional parts for flute, trumpet, SATB choir, children's choir and piano are delightful additions that greatly enhance the whole performance.
