Here is a flexible arrangement of the hymn “God Loved the World So That He Gave” (ST CRISPIN) that is based on John 3:16 and can be used in worship during Lent, Easter, or any time of the Church Year. Designed to involve all ages and levels, this arrangement includes parts accessible to beginning musicians, but is also interesting and challenging for intermediate and advanced players. First the melody is provided so that instruments can at any time play the melody alone or together. A standard four-part harmonization (Setting A) and two variations (Settings B and C) follow. Based on the standard harmonization, the variations provide alternate voicings, descants, and counter-melodies that will lift congregational singing. The arrangement can also be played alone. It is part of the series Festive Hymn Arrangements for the Divine Service. The audio sample features Settings A, B, and C. For more information and music, visit www.jubalslyre.com.
