The Burning Babe

Duration: 9 minutes. For violin, cello and piano. A fantasy in four  contrasting "movements" useful as a church service prelude or on a  seasonal recital program. Utilizes four German melodies, plus "Jingle  Bells" motives threaded lightheartedly throughout. The opening "Ihr  Kinderlein kommet" (O Come, Little Children) builds to a mixed meter  climax. "Still, Still, Still" makes use of jazz keyboard voicings  and an imitative countermelody. "Kling Glckchen" (Ring, Little  Bell) includes a Baroque fugato section and a Cassical sonatina passage. The  work ends with the familiar "Es ist ein Ros' entsprungen" (Lo, How  a Rose e'er Blooming).

Christmas Trio No. 3

A medley of four Christmas carols of French Origin: Noel nouvelet (Sing  We Now of Christmas), Un flambeau, Jeanette, Isabelle (Bring a Torch,  Jeanette, Isabelle), Il est ne, le divin enfant (He Is Born, the Holy Child),  and Minuit, chretiens (O Holy Night). Arranged as a  "fantasy-sonata" the first movement is driving, the second is a  sweet lilting waltz, the third is a lighthearted take on the melody that  alternates between "jaunty" and "solemn" (briefly  employing bitonal harmonization) before launching into a blues variation. The  finale is a "slow R&amp;B" reimagining of O Holy Night that can be  thought of somewhat as the love ballad reprise at the end of a Disney  movie. Though each "movement" is made up of original material, each one incorporates a familiar holiday tune: Jingle Bells, Silent Night and Angels We Have Heard On High, respectively.

In Dulci Jubilo is a Christmas carol from the middle ages, and is a  traditional Christmas service postlude. The melody may be familiar to English  speakers as "Good Christian Men Rejoice". This upbeat piano trio  arrangement is in 3 parts: allegro vivace, "somewhat more relaxed"  in which the meter is modified and some blues elements are incorporated, and  a tempo which has heroic elements.                Duration: 3:30. This arrangement is suitable for a church service such as  part of a prelude or offertory, or as an addition to a holiday recital. The  parts are meant for advanced players; however, it is simple enough so that it  can be put together with minimal rehearsal time.

The Wexford Carol (With The Holly and the Ivy)

c. 3:30. Suitable for a teacher/advanced student(s) feature in a holiday
  recital, or a spotlight performance in a traditional church Christmas
  service. A short, wild introduction leads to a "humoreske"
  statement of the melody, unadorned. Variation 1 is a play on blocked triads
  and stilted rhythm. Variation 2 is a free, fantasy-like interpretation of the
  theme. Variation 3 is a slow ragtime that leads into Variation 4, a
  Charleston. The writing for each player is not particularly challenging, but
  putting it together will require some advanced skills, including the way

Based on the ancient Latin text by Prudentius Aurelius, made famous by the evocative translations of Neale and Davis, this new setting of Corde Natus ("Of the Father's Love Begotten") presents a beautiful choral reflection on love, creation and worship. Sometimes associated with Advent or Christmas, the lyrics are typically associated with the Gregorian chant: "Divinum Mysterium" - a style of singing that is difficult for many congregations, even when updated to modern notation in hymnals. This anthem re-presents the timeless lyrics with steady meter, regular phrases full of step-wise melodic motion,aawith plenty of unison and light choral harmony. It functions both as a piece suitable for amateur choirs, as well as having enough challenges to engage a more advanced choir. The piano part flows in and through the melody, leading to the punctuating moment of each verse: "Alleluia."

Of the Father's Love Begotten

Texts were drawn from the composer's spam email inbox, and also feature two "Trump Tweets". The extremely short pieces always surprise and delight audiences with their dark whimsy and absurdity. Musical styles range from faux-Baroque to faux-modernist and many others in between. Lasting less than 10 minutes, Spam Songs would be a novel addition to a classical vocal recital set.

Mezzo-Soprano Solo

A gospel setting of the Latin text, O Magnum Mysterium for solo voice,  women's choir and piano. The score includes chord symbols to incorporate  other instrumentalists.                Shake things up at your Christmas or Advent services with a powerful new  choir anthem that relates the timeless story about animals bearing witness to  the birth of God's Son, humanity's Savior. The joyful verses musically  narrate the manger scene with Mary, shepherds and a host of angels. The  soloist asks, "What have you seen, Shepherds?" and the choir  responds, "We have seen the newborn King."

The prelude begins calmly with a parody of Chopin's Nocturne in Eb major Op. 9, No. 2 that instead uses the classic melody "It Came Upon the Midnight Clear." Next, a less familiar spiritual "Rise Up, Shepherd, and Follow" expands the harmonic and emotional range while recalling the African American shout-singing call-and-response tradition. The French carol, "Quelle est cette odeur agreable ?" (What Is This Fragrance?) is a favorite melody of the arranger's and is treated with mysterious, wafting harmonies before being carried aloft and settling back down again. Finally, "Go Tell It On the Mountain" enters with cheekily in a blues style that develops into a "cowboy" waltz for the climax.
