"Graveyard Shift" is a captivating work that depicts the eerie experience of sitting around at night, waiting for the sun to rise. Every sound can seem frightening in the darkness, and this piece vividly describes the spooky wait for dawn. The composition teaches students about the relationship between major and minor keys, utilizing low notes in the trumpets and clarinets to create a haunting atmosphere. As the piece progresses, it builds tension but ultimately guides listeners to the safety of daybreak, emerging from the night unscathed.
