Great Women Composers: Elisabeth Jacquet de La Guerre

Elisabeth Jacquet de La Guerre (1665-1729) born in Paris, France was a musician, harpsichordist and the first female composer of opera in France. A child prodigy, born into an artisan family, Jacquet de La Guerre was one of the few well-known published female composers of her time. She composed in a highly ornamental style for voice, stage, harpsichord, wind and string instruments, and ensembles.
