A tourist adventure through nearby space starting "25 Yards Past  Pluto", and heading for the realm of angels.                The suite is primarily saxophone and flute, but feel free to adapt to other  instruments, especially the percussion, which was created using a keyboard  drum kit.a This piece is very  imaginary, so let your imagination go with the winds of space!

We may say a person is "rich" if they live in a nice home, eat well, have good health and a fat bank account; but Jesus asks us - is that what makes us rich?  Sure, rich to ourselves, but what about rich towards God, which means enriching the lives of our neighbors, friends and the unexpected stranger.  This is a song for examining the heart.

'Cry Out in the Desert' is a vigorous setting of Isaiah's prophecy - Prepare the way of the Lord!', reiterated by Jesus as He began to minister to the world.  It is a call to stir the dry soul to life, and to give honor to God in how we live.  It is two minutes in length, and may be used in the normal place for an anthem, or to begin a service or preface a sermon.

Cry Out in the Desert

This is a short fantasy piece, picturing shepherds on a hillside (musically), quoting the folk song All Through the Night.  But abruptly the scene changes as some very jazz-oriented angels appear, and the rest is history! Scored for bass, flute, tenor sax and keyboard, plus drums (no part - just improvise a standard jazz beat plus some modest fills). By request, I've also expanded this to big-band size, available separately on this My Score site.

When a student saxophone quartet was asked to perform Bach's Fugue in B Minor (BWV544) as part of a farewell party for a beloved teacher, they played it "Jazz" style - straight from the score with swing! The subject of Bach's Fugue in B Minor (BWV544) begins with sixteen equal notes. This walking bass feature should come out strongly, but not dominate the wealth of riffs and figurations that characterize Bach. This is a marriage between an organ piece and jazz. Keep the tone strong and you will end up with  polyphonic power; not merely a series of entrances, but a whole starry galaxy of Jazz Baroque! Syncopations have been tweaked into the music, but have strictly kept the actual order of notes, except that they are now in G minor, a better key for the horns. Enjoy!

Fugue in J

This is a short fantasy piece, picturing shepherds on a hillside musically, to the folk song All Through the Night. But abruptly the scene changes as some very jazz-oriented angels appear, and the rest is history! Drums play a soft standard jazz beat in the background (not notated); and are welcome to riff at their and director's pleasure. Also available in its original ensemble for sax, flute, keyboard, bass and drums.

The Apostle Paul often began his letters to the church with "Grace, Mercy and Peace be to you!"  Do we desire that the world will come to know grace, mercy and peace as its normal condition?  I find music in this little saying, and how Jesus Christ brings the words into life through His Spirit.
