The intricacies and nuance of Helen C. Crane's (1868 - 1930) musical
  style is at once evident in her piano music. 
  Helen must have been a pianist judging from the way her music lays
  under the fingers (albeit with hands like Rachmaninoff).   From mid-career  there is "Morning Moods" op.45,
  five pieces which cover an array of musical impressions - from "first
  light" to "oh man, the milk man forgot to leave the cream!"
  (my impression) Also her "Capricietto" op. 26  - a very heroic declarative piece.  HCC composed two groupings of music for the
  ballet;  the second group op.39,  is included in Book Four. Then from her
  late compositional period,  her
  "Am Schloss Kamin" or "Fireside at the Manor" op.70,..six
  pieces,... four people are represented, each resident of the house speaks,
  each with their own unique voice. Book Four truly  is a voyage all in itself.   Level of difficulty is from Medium
  Advanced.

Book Two is comprised of piano pieces for the advanced pianist;  roughly arranged  so that each piece is progressively more
  difficult. Included in this grouping, Helen Crane's "Intermezzo"
  op. 38, no.2 with its unusual twists of harmony; also (3) of her Ballades,
  op. 40, no.2, and op.44 no. 1 &amp; 2 Last in the set is her
  "Rhapsodie" op. 17, definitely a showy piece with juxtaposed duple
  and triple meters and chromaticism; HCC finishes the piece with a lovely
  almost Mozartian coda.

continuation of series exploring Helen Crane's compositions for
  accompanied violin.  This book includes
  her op. 41 Zwei Violinstucke" (Two Pieces for Violin),  which were written in Germany previous to
  her return to the US because of World War I. 
  Then the first of two violin sonatas, 
  this one her op. 61 in F major written Stateside around 1920.

Violin Solo Collection with Piano

This work composed c. 1912  a
  little over a decade after her previous quartet, shows the amazing evolution
  of the artist.  It has a focused tonal
  center and memorable material.  Like
  much of HCC's music it exhibits unique adventurism in relationship of
  keys.  First movement
  "andante";  second movement -
  a brisk vivace; third movement "adagio espressivo" finishing with
  an accelerando passage flowing straight into the last movement  "allegro vivace", which is truly
  "earworm" material. Almost all Helen C. Crane's music shows a
  conscious effort to create music on a human scale, music that can be
  internalized  and which communicates on
  many levels.

Helen Crane's  first String Quartet
  written approx. 1898. very classical; Mozartian, first movement -
  "sonata allegro"; second movement - a lovely somber singing 9/8,
  third movement - "scherzo &amp; trio" and final movement -
  "vivace". Helen Crane was a student of Philip Scharwenka at the
  Berlin Conservatory, was published in Europe and well enough appreciated to
  have two all - Helen Crane concerts at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria in
  1928 and 1930.

This book of Helen Crane's music includes her "Romanza for Cello &amp; Piano" op. 48, and her "Suite for Cello &amp; Piano", op. 64.

Cello Solo Collection with Piano

A taste of recently re-discovered American composer, Helen Crane's music
  for Cello with piano accompaniment. Experience the many moods and unique
  characteristics of her music. (1868 - 1930). Ms. Crane was a New York native
  who studied composition under Philip Scharwenka at the Klindworth-Scharwenka
  Conservatory in Berlin. With the completion of her studies she was accepted
  for publication by numerous publishing houses: Breitkopf &amp; Hertel, Gustav
  Vetter, Ries &amp; Erler. Included in Book One, "Six Idylls for Cello
  &amp; Piano", op. 51, all are tonal, memorable, but explore harmonic
  possibilities; all are lyric.  Her
  "MorgenstAndchen", op. 16 (Morning Serenade)  closes out the set.

The Book Three of this group contains Helen Crane's Sonata for Violin in
  f# minor, op. 63; also her light but lovely Three Folk Songs for Violin &amp;
  Piano, op. 59; and her set of Two Pieces for Violin &amp; Piano, op. 67,
  which includes probably her tartest harmonic treatment of any of her pieces
  in no.2 "Grotesque"

  her "Abend Idyll" op.16, a melancholy yet vibrant pastiche of an
  "evening stroll", two of her "Six Idylls for Violin" op.
  51 and her lovely "Romanza" op.22.

The third book in the series covers more in depth Helen Crane's
  (1868-1930)    compositions formulated
  as groupings of concept pieces: moods, seasons, places. etc.   Book Three includes  "Four Character Pieces", op. 6,
  with lovely "Waldstille" (Forest Quiet) almost minimalist in its
  feel and then there is the exuberant "Wanderlust:; then "Scenes
  Champetres" op.31 (Country Scenes) six pieces evoking the broad spectrum
  of country life: rustic peasant dances and religious sombre tones;  finally "September Days" op.62 :
  3  pieces reflecting the varied colors
  of autumn. "Intermezzo" op.38, no.1 is included as well: opening A
  material in 3 with a contrasting center section in 6/8 duple division,
  indicated "vivace". Exciting &amp; lovely and reasonably challenging.  Her re-discovered music is "new"
  though now a century old and it is 
  lyric and tonal.

With this first book of her piano music, Helen C. Crane (1868 - 1930)
  makes her 21st century debut. Her piano music gives a unique insight into her
  marvelous talent and reveals a heretofore unheard American strain: the unique
  marriage of Helen Crane's American taste and sensibilities and her German
  conservatory training. It is apparent upon playing and/or listening to her
  music that here was fertile ground for the blossoming of all manner of future
  American music styles, from music for the cinema to jazz and unique styles of
  George Gershwin and perhaps Irving Berlin. This particular book includes 4 or
  her Miniature Sketches (2 to 3 page recital pieces), selections from her
  extended work  "Enchanted Garden"
  op.49, also "Albumblatt" (1896) and the first of her Four Sonnets
  for Pianoforte.  An excellent sampling
  of the work of this American treasure.
