Groove Factory is a constantly evolving, highly rhythmic work written for middle school band. The piece is in g-minor and g-blues, making it approachable for young secondary musicians, while still providing tonal and rhythmic challenges along the way. The piece was written to promote groove-based music, featuring the jazz-funk style in a young concert band setting. The grade of 2-3 was selected because of the challenges in the percussion parts. Optional parts are included and are encouraged if your program has a large percussion section with a range of skills.
The piece was premiered in April of 2024 at Boulder Country Day (Colorado), and was written for Dr Kathryn Eagles and the BCD middle school concert band.
