This simple hymn, so popular for two centuries until 1900 and even
  included today in German language hymnals, brings a glow of heart-felt warmth

  While loved and sung ever since in his tradition, it holds its own as
  a classic hymn of gratitude for all people.

  beat.  The lyrics take us to the heart

Of all the hymns generated by the Anabaptists since 1525, none has
  gripped the imagination across the centuries as much as this one.  This is the half-slow setting of the tune
  Nun Freut Euch.  This is not the
  full-slow version sung by the Amish. 
  This setting is doable by the average choir. Sing freely and not so
  metrically.  Your singers will hear the
  chant behind the notes.

Loblied

In the backwaters of colonial meetinghouse life in the 1700s, this
  classic hymn was alive and well, sung, of course, in the non-directed,
  non-metrical, oral style, slow and with added notes making it sound like
  chant. This piece can take pride of place in a set of historical American
  pieces.  The J. S. Bach harmonization
  lies behind it. A descant for solo treble instrument gives wings to the tune.

Liebster Jesu, wir sind hier

As popular song began to influence worship in the early 1800s, this most famous song of the 19th century blurred boundaries of worship and social fellowship.  This arrangement brings out the ineffability of both the sacred and popular texts and of the music.  Your choir will shine.

This touching, popular song is still found in hymnals and translated into many languages.  Of all the colonial hymns in Menno Heirs, this one remains the most popular.  If you can choose only one to move the hearts of your people, this is the one.
