Hexameron

Hexameron (Bravura Variations for Piano). 'The word 'hemeron' in Greek means 'day', and 'hex' stands for the number six. A hexameron, therefore, is a story told in six days. The 'Hexameron' printed here requires only one evening, but what makes it special is the six great Romantic composers who devised it. Each of them wrote a variation on the march from the opera 'I Puritani' by Vincenzo Bellini (1801-1835) which had had its premiere in Paris only two years previously - in the year of the composer's death. Franz Liszt composed the introduction , the 2nd variation, interludes, and the finale. In addition to Liszt, Johann Peter Pixis, Henri Herz, Frederic Chopin, Sigismund Thalberg, and Carl Czerny composed one variation each.' -- Saskia Bieber, Editor. Edited by Bignardelli.
