Designed to represent the building of character, conviction, and values, this piece strongly emphasizes a "coming-of-age" arc. It encompasses a wide range of textures and feelings, detailing the journey of self-discovery, personal challenges, and growth. Beginning in significant turmoil and uncertainty, it resolves to a sense of peace, growth, and joy near the end, representing a wiser inner understanding, even if it is not necessarily complete.

This piece is designed to evoke the spirit of spring, its wonders, and the sense of peace, growth, and beauty it brings. Sometimes solemn, sometimes vibrant, and occasionally dark, it aims to encapsulate nature recovering from a cold winter. Rather than taking the listener down a particular trail, it invites the listener to look around and experience bite-sized pieces of nature scattered throughout the piece.

Adagio

I wrote this piece aiming to embrace aspects of modern music genres such as complex rhythms, richer, more jazz-like harmonies, and a strong sense of energy and passion. The result still feels like a classical work, but certain moments really stretch the boundary between music of the past and popular music of now. One section in the last movement even sounds like heavy metal if played a certain way! Regardless, this piece is filled to the brim with a vibrant cast of characters and styles. I hope you enjoy!

String Quartet No. 2

2 Violins, Viola, Cello Quartet

Alexander Borodin's "Petite Suite," often considered to be Borodin's most significant work for piano, consists of seven movements. Originally written for solo piano, it consists of short works that tend to stand on their own rather than build on previous ideas. The sixth movement, the Serenade, is arguably one of the most beautiful works that Borodin has ever written. Sometimes joyous, and other times melancholic, its character reflects that of romantic works of the modern era. Expanded for viola and piano, this arrangement takes advantage of the viola's warm, gentle tone to add more character and color. 

This arrangement contains the Serenade both in the original key signature of D♭ major and in the key of D major, the latter facilitating the piece for the violist.
